The Rockdale City Charter (PDF) provides for the establishment of a Municipal Court for the trial of misdemeanor offenses. The court has jurisdiction over offenses committed within the city limits that are violations of municipal ordinances or state statutes.
The municipal court judge is appointed by the Rockdale City Council and oversees the administration of the court. The city attorney acts as the prosecutor for the Municipal Court.
The Municipal Court follows the procedures required by the United States and the State of Texas to provide all court participants the rights guaranteed to them under the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Texas.
